Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Postby Tanya » Tue Mar 27, 2012 12:53 am

It was the first race of the 2012 Izod Indycar series. Following the tragic death of Dan Wheldon, the series underwent a new change: New cars and new drivers (including former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello). Rubens qualified in 13th while Penske driver Will Power took the pole. At St. Petersburg, the track named turn 11 after Dan Wheldon. After 100 laps, Penske driver Helio Castroneves won the race after a dismal 2011 season and paid homage to Indycar's fallen brother by stopping at turn 11, climbed the fence for the cheering crowd, and then crossed over and touched the street sign that read 'Dan Wheldon Way'. It was a touching moment for everyone. Rubens finished the race in 17th with a lap down.

Next race is in Alabama.

Rubens did great at Alabama as did Sebastian Bourdais. Trying to convince the papi to have us attend this year's 500, but so far, it's not going according to plan. He's very disappointed over the new car.
